Welcome! My name is Dr. Timothy J. Christian. If you don’t know me, I am a Christian, a husband, a father, a pastor, and a New Testament scholar. I have been an Adjunct Professor at Asbury University for 10 years and teach a variety of courses on the Bible, Theology, Ministry, Greek, and Latin. I also have 17 years of pastoral ministry experience and served a number of churches in a variety of ways. This is my blog where I post on three things: (1) Life, (2) Scripture, and (3) Music.
Posts pertaining to Life include topics about my family, friends, parenting, ministry, and hobbies such as reading/watching epic books/movies like The Lord of the Rings.
Posts pertaining to Scripture include topics on the Bible (OT & NT), Christian Theology, ancient religion, Greco-Roman history and rhetoric, and ancient languages like Koine Greek, Biblical Hebrew, and Classical Latin. As a New Testament (NT) scholar, I lean towards writing on subjects related to NT studies for the academy and the church. My research interests include Paul, 1 Corinthians, Rhetorical Criticism, NT Greco-Roman Backgrounds, Greek Grammar and Syntax, Eschatology and Resurrection, and the Book of Revelation.
Posts pertaining to Music will mainly be my own compositions and reviews of classic jazz albums. I am a jazz musician, composer, and improviser at heart. I play trumpet, bass, guitar, piano, and drums, and I have recorded albums where I play all of the instruments. My greatest influences are Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane, Chick Corea, Joe Pass, Pat Metheny, and Dave Brubeck. Since I am a Christian and have been a worship pastor, I will also post Christian worship songs from time to time, both covers and my own songs.
If there is anything that you would like me to blog on concerning Life, the Bible, or Music, please send me a request at timothy.christian@asbury.edu. Also, feel free to comment and respond to all posts, though I ask that you be respectful to me and one another, and that you stick to the topic at hand. Thank you for taking time to join with me in sharing life, in thinking critically upon Scripture and theology and what it means for us today, and in listening to music which feeds the soul.
