1 Corinthians 15:19

19 εἰ ἐν τῇ ζωῇ ταύτῃ ἐν Χριστῷ ἠλπικότες ἐσμὲν μόνον, ἐλεεινότεροι πάντων ἀνθρώπων ἐσμέν.

19 If in this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are more pitiable than all people.

εἰ – cond. conj. marking the protasis (“if” clause). First class cond. assumed true for the argument’s sake [W690-94].

ἐν τῇ ζωῇ ταύτῃ – prep. phrase.

ἐν Χριστῷ – prep. phrase.

ἠλπικότες ἐσμὲν – periphrastic ptc. which contains the subj. and is the verb of the protasis [perf-act-ind-1-p = {pres-cop-ind-1-p-ειμί + perf-act-ptc-masc-pl-nom-ελπίζω}]. A present form of ειμί + the perf. ptc. = the perfect tense [W647-49].

μόνον, – adv. marking a limitation, “limiting the action or state to the one designated by the verb” (BDAG 2.a.).

ἐλεεινότεροι – comparative pred. adj. Note the asyndeton with no conj. marking the apodosis [W658].

πάντων ἀνθρώπων – gen. of comp. [W110-12].

ἐσμέν. – subj. and main verb of the apodosis [pres-cop-ind-1-p-ειμί].
