1 Corinthians 15:32

32 εἰ κατὰ ἄνθρωπον ἐθηριομάχησα ἐν Ἐφέσῳ, τί μοι τὸ ὄφελος; εἰ νεκροὶ οὐκ ἐγείρονται, φάγωμεν καὶ πίωμεν, αὔριον γὰρ ἀποθνῄσκομεν.

32 If I fought wild beasts in Ephesus from a human standpoint, what profit is there for me? If the dead are not raised, “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!”

εἰ – cond. conj. marking the protasis. First class condition assumed true for the sake of the argument [W690-94].

κατὰ ἄνθρωπον – prep. phrase. Adverbial idiom meaning “in a human way, from a human standpoint” (BDAG 2.b.).

ἐθηριομάχησα – subj. verb of cond. sub. clause [aor-act-ind-1-s-θηριομαχέω].

ἐν Ἐφέσῳ, – prep. phrase. Locative.

τί – interrog. pronoun adjectivally modifying τὸ ὄφελος. Marks a question and the apodosis with no linking conj. (asyndeton), and it is an elliptical phrase assuming a “to be” verb (existential use: “there is”).

μοι – dat. of interest (advantage) [W142-44].

τὸ ὄφελος; – nom. subj. of this elliptical copular (existential) phrase.

εἰ – cond. conj. marking the protasis. First class condition assumed true for the sake of the argument [W690-94].

νεκροὶ – nom. subj. of the cond. sub. clause. Monadic absence of the art. [W248-49].

οὐκ – neg. adv.

ἐγείρονται, – verb of cond. sub. clause [pres-pass-ind-3-p-εγείρω].

φάγωμεν – subj. and main verb of the apodosis [aor-act-subjv-1-p-εσθίω]. Hortatory subjv. [W464-65]. Note once again asyndeton. Also, this is a quote from Isaiah 22:13.

καὶ – connective conj. [W671].

πίωμεν, – subj. and main verb of the apodosis [aor-act-subjv-1-p-πίνω]. Hortatory subjv. [W464-65].

αὔριον – adv.

γὰρ – causal conj. [W674].

ἀποθνῄσκομεν. – subj. and verb of causal sub. clause [pres-act-ind-1-p-αποθνήσκω]. Futuristic present (completely) [W535-37].
